Swansea City AFC‘s Korean midfielder Ki Sung-yueng claimed that there was a contact in the box by Laurent Koscielny.
Arsenal defeated Swansea City with four goals at the Liberty Stadium moving back into the top four of the EPL table. The penalty appeal incident came at the 44th minute, just before half-time. Swansea City’s midfielder Ki tried to change his direction with the ball inside the box but fell down right in front of Koscielny. Referee Mike Jones blew the whistle and for a moment, fans thought it was a penalty. However, Ki was the one booked with a diving action.
Ki’s new manager Paul Clement showed disagreement with the referee’s decision in his post-match interview. He watched the replay several times and emphasized that there was a contact from Koscielny bringing down his player. He also said that the game might have changed if they were awarded a penalty with a correct decision.
