Arsenal’s Egyptian midfielder ruled out in Africa Cup of Nations due to a calf injury

Arsenal’s latest injury list looked very good with only Santi Cazorla on it. But, far away from Africa, came a bad news. Mohamed Elneny, participating in Africa Cup of Nations with the Egypt National Team, has picked up a calf injury just before his quarter-final game against Morocco.

It is hard to identify how serious the injury is yet and Arsène Wenger has to wait until at least February 5th to receive a detailed report. Elneny was steadily increasing his influence on the Arsenal squad and his presence definitely gave Wenger more options for the game plan. For Arsenal, planning to fully utilize Elneny after he returns from Africa, this is a worrying news that might affect the title race against Chelsea FC.
